Stable Audio is still strong for instrumentals up to 6 minutes, audio-to-audio and inpainting, but its free plan is personal use only and it won't sing your lyrics. ElevenLabs is the closest all-round swap for music plus sound effects, Suno wins for songs with vocals, AIVA for MIDI, Soundraw for royalty-free beds and Meta AudioCraft for free self-hosted work. Udio still edits audio well but has blocked downloads since October 2025. If the audio is for a video, Vidwip AI Studio makes music and sound effects straight onto your timeline.
Stable Audio alternatives matter when you need vocals, a bigger free tier, sound effects inside a video editor or open weights you can run yourself. Stable Audio makes instrumentals and sound effects well, but it isn’t the right fit for every job.
Stability AI’s tool is alive and improving. Its free plan is personal use only, though, and it won’t sing your lyrics.
This guide ranks seven Stable Audio alternatives for AI music and sound FX. We compared each one on audio quality, track length, audio-to-audio editing, sound effects and commercial license, and checked every price on the vendor’s own page in October 2026, in US dollars unless noted.
TL;DR: the best Stable Audio alternatives
- Best for video edits: Vidwip AI Studio. Music and sound effects land on the timeline next to your footage.
- Best all-round swap: ElevenLabs. Music up to 5 minutes plus sound effects up to 30 seconds, from $6/month.
- Best for vocals: Suno. Full songs with singers, from $10/month.
- Best for MIDI: AIVA. MIDI export on every plan, and you own the copyright on Pro.
- Best royalty-free beds: Soundraw. Shape a track with sliders instead of prompts.
- Best free and self-hosted: Meta AudioCraft. MusicGen and AudioGen on your own GPU, non-commercial.
- Best for in-platform song editing: Udio. Strong audio-to-audio tools, but no downloads since October 2025.
What Stable Audio does well, and where it stops
Stable Audio is Stability AI’s text-to-audio tool for instrumentals, loops and sound effects. It runs in the browser, in a DAW plugin and through the Stability API.
Stability launched Stable Audio 3.0 on May 20, 2026, as a family of four models, with the Medium model reaching 6 minutes 20 seconds, as Music Business Worldwide reported. Three of the four are open-weight, and Stability says they were trained on licensed data.
Stable Audio’s pricing: personal use on Free, a commercial license on every paid plan.
The web app covers music and sound effects, audio-to-audio, inpainting and multi-track generation. Paid plans generate any length up to 6 minutes.
Here’s what you pay, from stableaudio.com/pricing (checked October 2026):
| Plan | Price | Credits a month | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 50 (about 12 full mixes) | Personal, non-commercial |
| Solo | $12/month | 660 | Commercial license |
| Session | $30/month | 1,800 | Commercial license |
| Producer | $90/month | 6,000 | Commercial license |
| Studio | $199/month | 14,000 | Commercial license |
People look elsewhere for four reasons:
- No sung lyrics. Stable Audio is instrumental-first, so it won’t sing a jingle about your product.
- A thin free tier. About 12 full-mix generations a month, all personal use.
- It’s a separate tool. Every track is another download, import and level-match against your voiceover.
- Prompt syntax. It rewards producer vocabulary: track type, genre, instruments, mood and BPM.
How to judge a Stable Audio alternative
Match the tool to where the audio ends up. A bed under a YouTube video, a game loop and a streaming release need different things.
| Criterion | What to check |
|---|---|
| Audio quality | Clean transients, a steady tempo and no smeared high end |
| Length | The longest single generation, and whether you can set an exact length |
| Audio-to-audio | Can you upload audio to restyle, extend, cover or guide a track? |
| Sound effects | Does the tool make SFX at all, and how long can one be? |
| Stems and MIDI | Needed if you’ll finish the track in a DAW |
| Commercial license | The plan where commercial rights start, plus streaming, film or Content ID limits |
One tool from older lists is left out on purpose. Beatoven.ai shut its consumer service in August 2026, and its model is now licensed to businesses only.
1. Vidwip AI Studio
Vidwip AI Studio: music, sound effects and voices made right on the video timeline.
Vidwip AI Studio is a browser video editor that makes AI music and sound effects right on your timeline, with voices, music and sound effects running on ElevenLabs. It’s free to start, with no credit card.
The difference from Stable Audio is where the audio lands. You make the track inside the edit, and it sits on a track next to your footage, voiceover and captions. No downloads, no imports.
AI Music makes songs and instrumentals from 10 seconds to 3 minutes with ElevenLabs Music v2. You pick one of 16 styles, from Lo-fi and Electronic to Orchestral, and set the tempo yourself or let AI choose.
Each track is made to end on your length with a soft fade, not a hard cut. It comes in at the same volume as Vidwip’s AI voiceovers, and lyrics can be sung in 32 languages.
Remix song is the one audio-in music tool. It keeps the sound of a song you own and sings your new lyrics over it, but it isn’t a full style-transfer tool like Stable Audio’s audio-to-audio.
Pros
- Music and sound effects land on the video timeline, with no download and re-import
- Exact lengths from 10 seconds to 3 minutes, ending with a soft fade
- Sung or instrumental, in 16 styles, with lyrics in 32 languages
- Music matches the volume of Vidwip voiceovers
- Exports have no watermark
Cons
- No stems and no MIDI export
- No full audio-to-audio: Remix song only re-sings a song you own
- 3 minutes is the music ceiling
- No published music licence or commercial-use terms, so check Vidwip’s terms before a release
- Built for video edits, not as a standalone music workstation
- Video export tops out at 1080p
Best for: YouTubers, ad teams and product marketers who need a bed, a jingle or a sound effect sized to the cut they’re editing.
Pricing: Free to start, no credit card. Starter $25/month (2,500 credits) and Pro $99/month (10,000 credits), Enterprise custom (see Vidwip pricing).
2. ElevenLabs Music and Sound Effects
ElevenLabs: Music v2 and v2.5 plus a sound-effects generator in one credit pool.
ElevenLabs is the closest one-account swap for Stable Audio, offering text-to-music up to 5 minutes and sound effects up to 30 seconds, from $6 a month.
Its music docs set lengths from 3 seconds to 5 minutes. Music v2.5 is the newest model, and inpainting regenerates one section of a song without touching the rest.
Audio Reference is its take on audio-to-audio. On paid plans, you upload up to about 30 seconds of audio to guide the style of a new track.
The sound effects generator makes clips up to 30 seconds from a prompt. It loops seamlessly and exports 48 kHz WAV for non-looping effects.
Pros
- Music and SFX in one account, alongside ElevenLabs voices
- Inpainting fixes one section without regenerating the song
- Audio Reference guides a new track from your own clip
- ElevenLabs says its music is “cleared for nearly all commercial uses”
Cons
- Free plan can’t download music
- Starter bans streaming release and caps music downloads at 30 minutes a month
- Every self-serve plan excludes film, TV, radio and studio games, per its music terms
- Music shares one credit pool with voice work
Best for: Video teams and agencies who want music, SFX and voice from one vendor. See our ElevenLabs alternatives if you want the voice side compared too.
Pricing: Free with 10,000 credits a month. Starter $6/month, Creator $22/month (first month half price), Pro $99/month, Scale $299/month (elevenlabs.io/pricing, checked October 2026).
3. Suno
Suno: full songs with vocals, the gap Stable Audio leaves open.
Suno is an AI song generator for full tracks with vocals, offering licensed v6 models and commercial rights from $10 a month.
It covers what Stable Audio doesn’t: lyrics, singers and song structure. Suno launched v6, v6-wild and v6-mini on September 9, 2026, built with Warner Music Group, BMG and Believe, as Music Week reported.
Uploads are its audio-to-audio route. You can extend or cover your own audio, and stem separation helps when you finish the song in a DAW.
Pros
- Natural vocals and full song structure from a prompt or your lyrics
- Upload audio to extend or cover it
- Stem separation on paid plans
- v6-mini is free for every user
Cons
- No sound effects generator
- Free plan has no downloads and no commercial rights
- Paid downloads are capped at 20 (Pro) or 60 (Premier) a month
- Overkill if you only need a quiet instrumental bed
Best for: Creators and songwriters who need vocals. For more song tools, see our Suno alternatives guide.
Pricing: Free with 50 credits a day. Pro $10/month ($8 billed yearly) for 2,500 credits and 20 downloads. Premier $30/month ($24 billed yearly) for 10,000 credits and 60 downloads (suno.com/pricing, checked October 2026).
4. AIVA
AIVA: composition-first AI with MIDI on every plan.
AIVA is an AI composition assistant for instrumental scores, offering MIDI export on every plan and full copyright on its Pro plan.
Where Stable Audio hands you a rendered waveform, AIVA hands you notes. You download MIDI, open it in a DAW and swap any instrument, which matters for game, film and orchestral work.
You can upload an audio or MIDI influence to steer a piece. Tracks run up to 3 minutes on Free, 5 minutes on Standard and 5 minutes 30 seconds on Pro.
Pros
- MIDI and MP3 on every plan, high-quality WAV on Pro
- Audio or MIDI influence uploads
- You own the copyright on Pro
- Strong at cinematic and orchestral styles
Cons
- No sound effects and no vocals
- AIVA owns the copyright on Free and Standard
- Standard monetizes only on YouTube, Twitch, TikTok and Instagram
- Free allows 3 downloads a month, non-commercial, with credit to AIVA
Best for: Composers and game developers who want MIDI they can rearrange.
Pricing: Free with 3 downloads a month. Standard €11/month and Pro €33/month, both billed yearly plus VAT (aiva.ai/pricing, checked October 2026). AIVA prices in euros, so the dollar charge moves with the exchange rate.
5. Soundraw
Soundraw: royalty-free beats you shape bar by bar.
Soundraw is an AI music generator for royalty-free background tracks and beats, trained only on music its in-house producers make.
You don’t write prompts. You pick a genre, mood and length, then switch instruments on or off and change the energy of each section.
Commercial use is included on every paid plan. Soundraw’s own licensing guide says it keeps ownership, and tracks can’t be registered with Content ID.
Pros
- Trained only on in-house music
- Commercial use on every paid plan
- Slider-style control over instruments, energy and length
- WAV and stems on Artist Pro and above
Cons
- No sound effects and no audio upload
- No MIDI export
- You don’t own the copyright on any plan
- Prices vary by region
Best for: Video creators who want a royalty-free instrumental and would rather drag sliders than write prompts. Compare it with similar tools in our Soundraw alternatives guide.
Pricing: Creator from $5.99/month and Artist plans from $10.49/month, billed yearly, with monthly billing costing more (soundraw.io/pricing, checked October 2026). Soundraw shows prices by region, so check the price it shows you.
6. Meta AudioCraft
Meta AudioCraft: open-source music and sound models you run on your own GPU.
Meta AudioCraft is a free, open-source audio generation library, offering MusicGen for music and AudioGen for sound effects on your own hardware.
It’s the self-hosted answer to Stable Audio’s open models. The repo bundles MusicGen, AudioGen, MAGNeT, MusicGen Style and JASCO, which conditions on chords and drums, and MusicGen’s melody model can follow a tune you feed it.
The catch is the license. The code is MIT, but the model weights are CC-BY-NC 4.0, so you can’t use the output commercially.
Development has slowed, with the last commit to main in March 2025 (checked October 2026). If you want open weights trained on licensed data, Stability’s own Stable Audio 3.0 open models are the other self-hosted route.
Pros
- Free and open source, with no credits or plan limits
- Music (MusicGen) and sound effects (AudioGen) in one library
- Melody, chord and drum conditioning
- Fully local, so your prompts and audio never leave your machine
Cons
- Model weights are non-commercial (CC-BY-NC 4.0)
- Needs Python, PyTorch and a capable GPU
- No web app, editor or support
- Little development since March 2025
Best for: Researchers and developers prototyping audio features, where commercial use isn’t needed.
Pricing: Free (code MIT, weights CC-BY-NC 4.0). You pay only for your own compute.
7. Udio
Udio: deep song editing, but the audio stays on Udio.
Udio is an AI song generator with strong audio-to-audio tools, offering songs from uploaded audio, style references, extend and remix from $10 a month. It ranks last here for one reason: you can’t download what you make.
On paper it’s the closest match to Stable Audio’s editing. Paid plans make songs from uploaded audio files, use an existing song as a style reference, and extend or remix tracks.
Then there’s the catch. Udio switched off downloads on October 29, 2025, as part of its settlement with Universal Music Group, and we found no sign they had returned when we checked in October 2026.
Pros
- Songs from uploaded audio, plus style references from existing songs
- Extend and remix tools
- Vocals and full song structure
- Voice Control and lyric editing on Standard
Cons
- No downloads since October 29, 2025, so the audio stays inside Udio
- No sound effects generator
- Free plan caps you at 3 full-length songs a day
- Not usable for a video, a game or a release until downloads return
Best for: Hobbyists who want to experiment with song ideas and share them on Udio. If you need files, see our Udio alternatives guide.
Pricing: Free with 10 credits a day. Standard $10/month ($8 billed yearly) for 2,400 credits. Pro $30/month ($24 billed yearly) for 6,000 credits (udio.com/pricing, checked October 2026).

How to choose the right Stable Audio alternative
- Scoring a video you’re editing? Pick Vidwip AI Studio. Music and sound effects land on the timeline, sized to your cut.
- Need music and sound effects from one vendor? Pick ElevenLabs, and check the Starter streaming ban.
- Need vocals? Pick Suno. Stable Audio, AIVA and Soundraw won’t sing your lyrics.
- Finishing the track in a DAW? Pick AIVA for MIDI, or Suno for stems.
- Need a royalty-free bed without prompting? Pick Soundraw.
- Building or researching, not publishing? Meta AudioCraft runs free on your own GPU.
Final verdict
Stable Audio is still a strong pick for producers who want long instrumentals, audio-to-audio and a DAW plugin. Most of these Stable Audio alternatives win by narrowing the job.
ElevenLabs is the best all-round swap for music plus sound effects. Suno covers vocals, AIVA covers MIDI, Soundraw covers royalty-free beds, and Udio’s editing only pays off if downloads come back.
If the music is for a video, make it where you edit. Vidwip AI Studio makes a 10-second to 3-minute track or a sound effect straight onto your timeline, and it’s free to start at app.vidwip.com.
