Podcastle is now Async, and its plans now bundle AI video models with podcast tools. If you record real guests, Riverside is the strongest replacement, Zencastr is the best free one and Descript is the best editor. Adobe Podcast and Cleanvoice fix bad audio. If you have the writing but no time to record, Vidwip AI Podcasts turns pasted text into an episode with up to 4 AI hosts in 74 languages.
Podcastle was the budget all-in-one for podcasters: record remote guests, clean the audio with Magic Dust and patch mistakes with AI voices. In 2026 it rebranded as Async and repriced around AI video, so plenty of shows are now shopping for Podcastle alternatives.
This post ranks seven of them on what a podcast needs: recording quality, AI audio cleanup, text-based editing and what you actually pay.
Every competitor price below was checked on the vendor’s own site in October 2026.
TL;DR: the best Podcastle alternatives at a glance
- Vidwip AI Podcasts: no recording at all. Paste an article or notes and get an episode with up to 4 AI hosts in 74 languages, for $1.20 per finished minute.
- Riverside: the strongest recording studio. Local per-guest tracks up to 4K and 48kHz, plus unlimited text-based editing on Pro. From $24/month billed yearly.
- Descript: the best editor. Edit audio like a doc, fix it with Studio Sound and regenerate flubbed words. From $16/month billed yearly.
- Adobe Podcast: the fastest free fix for bad audio. Enhance Speech cleans a 30-minute file in the browser at no cost.
- Zencastr: the best free studio. Unlimited 4K and 48kHz recording, AI cleanup, transcripts and hosting on the free plan.
- Wondercraft: AI-generated podcasts and audio ads inside a broader AI video studio. From $21/month billed yearly.
- Cleanvoice: the cleanup specialist. Strips filler words, mouth sounds and noise from finished recordings, from $11 a month.
Why people look for Podcastle alternatives
Podcastle announced its new name, Async, in January 2026. The company said it had “outgrown the word Podcastle”, and podcastle.ai now redirects to async.com.
The podcast tools survived the move. Async still offers remote multitrack recording, Magic Dust audio enhancement, text-to-speech, voice cloning and podcast hosting.
What changed is the pitch. The homepage now leads with “Edit videos like you have a pro editor”, and Async’s pricing page sells credits for Kling, Veo, Seedance and Nano Banana alongside the recording hours.
The plans, checked October 2026:
- Free: lifetime limits, including 1 hour of remote recording, about 15 minutes of AI voices, 720p video and 160 kbps MP3 export
- Essentials: $11.99/month billed yearly, 450 credits a month, recording up to 720p and 44kHz
- Pro: $23.99/month billed yearly, 1,200 credits, recording up to 4K and 48kHz
- Teams: $49.99 per creator per month billed yearly, 3,000 credits
Yearly billing saves 40%, so month-to-month costs more. If you only want an audio podcast, you’re paying for a video studio you may never open.
The audience is worth the switch to the right tool. Edison Research’s Infinite Dial 2026 found 58% of Americans aged 12 and older, about 167 million people, listened to a podcast in the last month, an all-time high.
What to look for in a Podcastle alternative
Recording quality. Local recording saves each guest’s track on their own device, so a bad connection doesn’t wreck the file. Look for 48kHz WAV audio and separate tracks per speaker.
AI audio cleanup. Noise removal, echo removal, levelling and filler-word cuts are what Magic Dust did. Check whether cleanup is included or metered.
Text-based editing. Editing a transcript is faster than scrubbing a waveform. Check transcription hours and how many languages it understands.
AI voices. Podcastle let you type a fix instead of re-recording it. Some alternatives regenerate words in your cloned voice; others generate whole AI-hosted episodes.
Real cost. Look past the headline. Free plans with lifetime caps, yearly-only prices and download limits change the maths.
1. Vidwip AI Podcasts: best for turning writing into an episode without recording
Vidwip AI Podcasts: paste an article and get an episode with up to 4 AI hosts in 74 languages.
Vidwip AI Podcasts is a text-to-podcast tool for content marketers, founders and newsletter writers, turning pasted writing into an episode with 1 to 4 AI hosts for $1.20 per finished minute.
It’s a different job from Podcastle’s. Vidwip doesn’t record or clean up real voices: it generates the whole episode from text you already have.
You paste 100 to 20,000 characters of an article, notes or a transcript. You pick a language, a target length of about 5, 10, 15 or 20 minutes, and name your hosts.
The AI agent writes a script with a turn for every host, as a conversation, an interview, a debate or a lesson. The hosts are then voiced together as one conversation, so replies sound like replies and cues like [laughs] are performed, not read aloud.
The script is told never to invent facts, numbers, names or quotes. Where your text is silent, the hosts wonder aloud instead of making claims.
The finished episode is a 192 kbps MP3. You can download it, share a public link, or paste an iframe player onto the page the episode came from.
Pros
- Up to 4 named hosts per episode, each with their own voice from 190+ ElevenLabs voices
- 74 languages, with the script written directly in the language you pick
- Grounded script that sticks to your source text
- Share link and embeddable player, so you don’t need a hosting service to publish on your own site
- Saved templates keep the same hosts, voices, intro, outro and music across episodes
Cons
- No recording and no audio cleanup: it can’t record guests or fix a real interview
- Pasted text only, with no PDF upload or URL import
- You can’t edit the script line by line before it’s voiced; you steer with an instructions field instead
- No RSS feed, so to reach Spotify or Apple Podcasts you upload the MP3 to your host
- Audio only, one episode at a time, with no automatic video version and no bulk generation
Best for: Teams with a backlog of articles or newsletters who want a listen version without booking a studio.
Pricing: Sign up free, no credit card. Episodes cost $1.20 per finished minute, so a 5-minute episode is about $6. Paid plans start at $25/month (see pricing).
2. Riverside: best for recording remote guests
Riverside: local recording per guest, then edit the session by transcript.
Riverside is a recording-first studio for podcasts and interviews, with text-based editing and AI repurposing built in, from $24 a month billed yearly. It’s the closest like-for-like replacement for Podcastle’s recording studio, one tier up in quality.
Each guest records locally, so the file survives a shaky connection. Video goes up to 4K and audio to 48kHz, with unlimited recording hours on every paid plan.
After the call, Pro gives you unlimited transcriptions and unlimited text-based editing. You also get silence and filler-word removal, audio enhancement, AI B-roll, eye contact correction, Magic Clips, show notes, and podcast hosting with publishing to YouTube, Spotify and Apple.
Pros
- Local per-guest recording up to 4K video and 48kHz audio
- Unlimited text-based editing and transcriptions on Pro
- Audio enhancement, silence and filler-word removal built in
- Magic Clips and show notes turn one episode into social posts
- Podcast hosting and analytics included
Cons
- No free plan on the pricing page, just a 14-day free trial
- Separate-track downloads are capped at 15 hours a month on Pro
- Collaborative editing and custom roles need the custom Business plan
- No AI-generated hosts: you still need people to record
Best for: Interview shows and video podcasts with remote guests.
Pricing: Pro $29/month, or $24/month billed yearly. Grow $39 ($34 yearly), Webinar $99 ($79 yearly), Business custom (riverside.com/pricing, checked October 2026).
3. Descript: best for editing a podcast like a document
Descript: edit audio and video by editing the transcript.
Descript is a text-based audio and video editor for podcasters and video creators, with remote recording, Studio Sound and AI voices, from $16 a month billed yearly. Pick it if editing, not recording, is where your hours go.
You record in Descript or import a file, and it transcribes it. Delete a word in the transcript and it’s gone from the audio.
Studio Sound cleans up room noise and echo. Regenerate patches a flubbed word in the speaker’s voice, so you skip the re-record.
Underlord, Descript’s AI co-editor, takes instructions like “remove filler words” or “make clips”.
Pros
- Edit audio and video by editing a transcript
- Studio Sound cleanup and Regenerate for word-level fixes
- Custom voice clones and 25+ stock AI speakers on Hobbyist
- Remote recording built in, with 5 hours a month on Hobbyist
- Underlord AI co-editor for cuts, clips and cleanup
Cons
- The free plan exports with a watermark at up to 720p
- Media minutes are capped: 600 a month on Hobbyist
- AI features draw on a monthly credit allowance
- Remote recording hours are lower than Riverside’s or Zencastr’s
Best for: Solo podcasters and editors who spend more time cutting than recording.
Pricing: Free with 60 media minutes a month. Hobbyist $24/month ($16 billed yearly), Creator $35 ($24 yearly), Business $65 ($50 yearly) (descript.com/pricing, checked October 2026). Our Descript alternatives guide covers its rivals in depth.
4. Adobe Podcast: best free fix for bad audio
Adobe Podcast: Enhance Speech, remote recording and transcript editing in the browser.
Adobe Podcast is a browser-based podcast studio from Adobe, best known for Enhance Speech, which makes a noisy voice recording sound studio-made for free. It’s the closest replacement for Magic Dust on its own.
Upload a file to Enhance Speech and it removes background noise and echo. Free users can enhance files up to 30 minutes and 500 MB, for up to 1 hour a day.
Adobe Podcast Studio adds remote recording, with each speaker captured as a separate 16-bit, 48kHz WAV track. You edit by transcript, using the same transcription engine as Adobe Premiere, and pick from royalty-free intros, outros and music beds.
Pros
- Enhance Speech is free and among the fastest one-click cleanups
- Unlimited remote recording on the free plan
- Speaker-separated 48kHz WAV tracks
- Transcript editing and captioning in the browser
- Premium comes with the Adobe Firefly Pro plan, alongside Adobe’s other creative tools
Cons
- Free downloads are capped at 2 Studio projects a day, up to 30 minutes each
- Free Enhance Speech is audio only, with no video and no strength adjustment
- No AI voice regeneration for flubbed words
- No hosting or publishing to podcast apps
Best for: Podcasters who record in imperfect rooms and want the audio fixed for free.
Pricing: Free plan. Premium features come with Adobe Firefly Pro at $19.99/month, which lifts Enhance Speech to 4 hours a day with files up to 2 hours and 1 GB, and removes download limits (podcast.adobe.com/en/plans, checked October 2026).
5. Zencastr: best free podcast studio
Zencastr: record, edit by chatting and publish, all on a free plan.
Zencastr is a podcast recording, editing and hosting platform whose free plan covers unlimited 4K, 48kHz recording, AI cleanup and hosting. Of the tools here, it’s the one that does the most of Podcastle’s job for $0.
Its pricing page now lists two plans: a free one and a custom Enterprise plan. The free plan includes up to 6 participants, unlimited separate-track recording, local recording with cloud backup, and 48kHz WAV audio.
Editing works by chatting with “your Producer”, an AI assistant that removes background noise, long pauses and filler words, normalises levels and writes chapters, titles and show notes. Hosting, RSS distribution to the major podcast apps and analytics are included.
Pros
- Unlimited 4K video and 48kHz WAV recording on the free plan
- AI cleanup, filler-word removal and text-based editing included
- Unlimited transcription hours
- Hosting, RSS distribution and analytics for up to 5 shows
- Web and iOS apps, with phone recording front and centre
Cons
- Transcription covers 10 languages
- Up to 6 participants per session
- The pricing page lists no self-serve paid tier beyond Enterprise, so it’s unclear what you’d pay to scale
- No AI voices for patching mistakes or generating hosts
Best for: Independent podcasters who want a full recording-to-publishing studio without a subscription.
Pricing: Free plan. Enterprise is custom (zencastr.com/pricing, checked October 2026).
6. Wondercraft: best for AI-generated podcasts and audio ads in a video studio
Wondercraft: an AI studio for video, podcasts and audio ads.
Wondercraft is an AI content studio for businesses that generates podcasts, audio ads and video from notes, documents or a script, from $21 a month billed yearly. It’s the pick if you liked Podcastle’s AI voices more than its recorder.
Like Async, Wondercraft now calls itself an AI video studio first. Audio is still supported: its homepage lists podcasts, audio ads, meditations and narrated content, and you can start from uploaded notes, a PDF or PowerPoint, an existing script or a podcast.
A banner on the pricing page advertises Convo Mode, an editable take on NotebookLM-style two-host audio. Its credits are shared across video, avatars, images, music, sound effects and voices.
Pros
- Generates podcasts and audio ads from documents or a script
- Voices, music and sound effects in one place
- Convo Mode for editable conversational audio
- Used by teams for internal comms and training audio
Cons
- The homepage and pricing now lead with AI video, not podcasts
- Credits are shared across every format, so audio competes with video for your allowance
- The free plan exports at up to 720p
- Not built for recording and cleaning up real guests
Best for: Business teams who want AI-voiced podcasts and audio ads next to their video work.
Pricing: Free with 150 credits. Creator $25/month ($21 billed yearly) for 1,000 credits. Pro from $45/month. Enterprise custom (wondercraft.ai/pricing, checked October 2026). See our Wondercraft alternatives guide for other AI podcast generators.
7. Cleanvoice: best for cleaning up finished recordings
Cleanvoice: upload a recording and get it back without the ums, noise and dead air.
Cleanvoice is an AI audio cleanup tool for podcasters that removes filler words, mouth sounds, breaths, silence and background noise from a recording, from $11 a month. It replaces Magic Dust and Podcastle’s silence removal, not the rest of the studio.
You upload audio or video, and Cleanvoice does a rough edit in one pass. On multitrack sessions it cuts filler words and dead air from every speaker’s track and keeps them in sync.
Then you export the cleaned file, or a timeline you can open in your own editor to check every cut. Transcription and a summary come with every plan.
Pros
- Removes filler words, mouth sounds, breaths, silence and noise automatically
- Multitrack edits that stay in sync across speakers
- Timeline export to your editor, so you keep control of the cuts
- Every feature on every plan, with pay-as-you-go credits valid for 2 years
- Try it without signing up, with 30 free minutes
Cons
- No recording studio
- No text-based editor of its own beyond the cleanup pass
- No AI voices or voice regeneration
- No hosting or publishing
Best for: Podcasters who already record elsewhere and want the tedious first edit done for them.
Pricing: 30 free minutes. Subscriptions from $11/month for 10 hours, or $110 a year. Pay as you go from $11 for 5 hours (cleanvoice.ai/pricing, checked October 2026).

Final verdict
Podcastle still exists as Async, and it’s still a capable budget studio. But its plans now carry AI video credits most podcasters won’t use.
Riverside is the best Podcastle alternative for recording, Zencastr is the best free one, and Descript is the best editor. Adobe Podcast and Cleanvoice fix the audio.
Vidwip AI Podcasts answers a different question: what if you didn’t record at all? Paste your latest post into Vidwip, cast up to 4 hosts, and have an episode without booking a guest.
