Ideogram 4.5 is a precision editing model first and a text-in-images model second. It is no longer the clear text leader: GPT Image 2.5 tops the Arena text-rendering board, and 4.5 ranks 41st on Artificial Analysis text-to-image. It still wins on fixed per-image prices ($0.03 to $0.22), native 2K, text-layer editing and a clear plan structure from $20 a month.
Ideogram 4.5 review: the short verdict
This Ideogram 4.5 review asks one question: is Ideogram still the best AI for text in images? Ideogram 4.5 is a precision editing model with strong typography, and it is no longer the undisputed text leader.
We did not run our own test batch. Every claim here comes from Ideogram’s pages, Artificial Analysis, Arena, or named coverage, checked November 6, 2026.
| Area | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Multi-turn editing | Strong | Ideogram says edits do not build up artifacts over repeated turns |
| Text in images | Good, not the leader | GPT Image 2.5 tops the Arena text-rendering board |
| Resolution | Strong | Native 2K, plus edits on a 24.2 MP source without downscaling |
| Price clarity | Strong | Fixed price per image: $0.008 to $0.22 |
| Public rankings | Mid-table | 41st on Artificial Analysis text-to-image |
| Openness | Mixed | 4.0 has open weights, 4.5 does not |
Pick it if you edit the same image over many rounds, need clean lettering on posters and logos, or want a fixed API price per image. Skip it if you want the top-ranked model on raw text-to-image quality, which today is GPT Image 2.5.
What is Ideogram 4.5?
Ideogram 4.5 is Ideogram’s most capable image model, pitched as the most precise edit model. Ideogram’s model page says leading models add artifacts, pixel shifts and colour changes with each edit, and that 4.5 removes that build-up so multi-turn editing works.
Ideogram’s model page for 4.5, checked November 2026.
It is live in the Ideogram app, its MCP connection and the API, in four quality modes at native 2K. Ideogram’s model page carries no release date. A third-party report from OrcaRouter dates the launch to September 30, 2026, and Artificial Analysis lists it as a September 2026 release.
Ideogram’s homepage ties 4.0 and 4.5 together under one promise: prompt fidelity, “crystal-clear type” and reliable editing. That text claim is Ideogram’s own, and the sections below test it against public rankings.
Ideogram 4.5 key features
The headline feature is Precise Edit, which changes part of an image and leaves the rest untouched. Ideogram’s API exposes two endpoints: Generate, which takes a prompt and up to 5 reference images, and Precise Edit.
- Four quality modes. Very Low, Low, Medium and High trade cost against fidelity. Very Low is available for editing and for generation with reference images.
- Native 2K. Output reaches 2K, and Ideogram shows an edit on a 4,016 by 6,016 pixel (24.2 MP) source image without downscaling it.
- Zoom editing. Ideogram says it preserves the edges of an edited crop, so you can stitch it back into the original for print-size work.
- Edit types. Its examples include colour and lighting, text modification, product photography, interior design, restoring old photos, sketch to image, style reference, reframe and depth to image.
- Layerize Text (beta). In Ideogram Studio, Layerize Text detects lettering in a flat image and rebuilds it as editable text layers. Ideogram warns that a missed word stays part of the image, and the recreated type and background may differ from the original.
Ideogram’s own comparison pits 4.5 against GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst, Nano Banana Pro and Nano Banana 2 over repeated edits. It says the others become unusable within a few edits. That is a vendor result, and we have not reproduced it.
Text, logos and posters: does it still lead?
Ideogram built its reputation on readable lettering, but public rankings no longer put it first. Arena has a text-rendering category with 84 models, dated November 2, 2026. GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst leads it at 1462.
At that snapshot Arena listed Ideogram 4.0 (Quality) in 22nd place at 1231, ahead of Luma UNI-1.1 Max and Qwen-Image-2.0-Pro. We found no Ideogram 4.5 entry in that category yet, so its text-rendering rank is unknown.
| Board (checked November 6, 2026) | Leader | Ideogram result |
|---|---|---|
| Arena text rendering (Nov 2 data) | GPT-Image-2.5 Sunburst, 1462 | Ideogram 4.0 Quality 22nd, 1231. No 4.5 entry |
| Artificial Analysis text-to-image | GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst (max), 1227 | Ideogram 4.5 (High) 41st, 1016 Elo, 3,172 votes |
| Artificial Analysis image editing | GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst (max), 1199 | Ideogram 4.5 (High) 30th, 1067 Elo, 3,629 votes |
Two caveats matter. The 4.5 sample sizes are small, and Artificial Analysis shows a 95% interval of about plus or minus 14 Elo on text-to-image. Also, on that text-to-image board Ideogram 4.0 (Quality) sits at 1027 and 32nd, above 4.5 at 1016, though the intervals overlap.
For logos and posters, the practical test is your own prompt. Ideogram’s Layerize Text page tells you to check every number, small date and footer line after an edit. Treat any model’s text as a draft until you have proofread it.
Ideogram 4.5 vs GPT Image 2.5 and Canva Craft
GPT Image 2.5 ranks higher on every public board we checked, while Canva Craft competes on workflow rather than rankings. Our GPT Image 2.5 review covers the OpenAI model in detail, and the GPT Image 2.5 vs Nano Banana 2 comparison shows how it compares with Google’s.
Canva Craft plans the layout and text before it renders. Our Canva Craft review covers its 2K output, 30+ aspect ratios and text in 55 languages, all as Canva states them.
| Ideogram 4.5 | GPT Image 2.5 | Canva Craft | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Core strength | Multi-turn precise editing | Top-ranked generation and editing | Layout-first planning inside Canva |
| Output | Native 2K | See our review | Up to 2K, 30+ aspect ratios |
| Text | Strong, claimed crisp type | Leads Arena text rendering | 55 languages, per Canva |
| Public rank | 41st AA text-to-image | 1st on Arena and AA | 4th on DesignArena, per Canva |
| Price | $0.03 to $0.22 per image | $0.21 per image at max (AA) | No Craft-specific price published |
| Where it runs | Ideogram app, API, MCP | ChatGPT and API | Canva Dream Lab and API |
Neither of the others is a drop-in replacement. If your work ends as a Canva design, Craft is closer to the finished file. If you need the highest-ranked output, GPT Image 2.5 leads.

Ideogram 4.5 pricing: API and plans
Ideogram sells 4.5 two ways: a fixed price per image through the API, or credits through a subscription. The numbers below are US prices from Ideogram’s pricing page, checked November 2026.
Ideogram’s API pricing tab, checked November 2026.
API price per image
Ideogram says each image has a fixed price. It does not change with prompt length, reference-image count or output resolution, and no subscription is required.
| Quality | Generate (prompt only) | Generate (with references) | Precise Edit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Very Low | Not available | $0.008 | $0.008 |
| Low | $0.03 | $0.03 | $0.03 |
| Medium | $0.06 | $0.06 | $0.06 |
| High | $0.10 | $0.22 | $0.22 |
Artificial Analysis lists the same $100 per 1,000 images for text-to-image and $220 per 1,000 for editing. For comparison, it lists GPT Image 2.5 at $210.72 per 1,000 at its max setting.
Subscription plans
Ideogram’s plans page, shown on the yearly toggle, checked November 2026.
| Plan | Monthly | Yearly (per month) | Priority credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Plus | $20 | $15 ($180 a year) | 2,400 a month |
| Pro | $60 | $42 ($504 a year) | 7,500 a month |
| Team | $30 per user | $20 per user ($240 a year) | 3,600 per user a month |
| Enterprise | Custom, postpaid | Custom | Custom |
| Pay as you go | 1 cent per credit | n/a | On demand |
Plus, Pro and Team include unlimited slow credits and all image and video models. Pro adds batch generation and the largest queue. Ideogram says each generation uses a different number of credits depending on model and rendering settings, and we did not find a per-image credit table.
Ideogram’s sign-in screen says email accounts get no free credits and need a paid plan to generate, while signing up with Google or Apple grants free credits. It does not state an amount.
Ideogram 4.5 pros and cons
Pros
- Precise Edit keeps the rest of the image intact, which Ideogram says holds across many edit turns
- Native 2K, with edits on a 24.2 MP source without downscaling
- Fixed per-image API prices from $0.008 to $0.22, with no subscription needed
- Layerize Text turns detected lettering into editable layers in Studio
- Plans from $20 a month, or $15 billed yearly
- Ideogram 4.0 is open-weight, so a free-to-run option exists for non-commercial use
Cons
- No longer the top-ranked model for text: GPT Image 2.5 leads Arena text rendering
- Ranks 41st on Artificial Analysis text-to-image, with small sample sizes
- The multi-turn comparison against rivals is Ideogram’s own and not independently reproduced
- High quality costs $0.22 per image for edits and reference-image generation
- 4.5 weights are not published, and 4.0’s license is non-commercial
- Layerize Text is in beta and may alter the recreated type and background
Who should use Ideogram 4.5?
Use it if your work is iterative: one image, many small changes. Designers refining a poster, marketers localising a promo graphic and product teams changing colourways all benefit from edits that leave the rest of the frame alone.
Use it through the API if you need predictable cost. A fixed price per image makes a batch budget easy to calculate, which is harder with token-billed models.
Look elsewhere if rankings drive the choice. GPT Image 2.5 is higher on every board we checked, and Canva Craft is the more direct route if the output must land inside a Canva design.
One more use: a clean poster or product frame makes a good first frame for an image-to-video model such as Hailuo 3 or Grok Imagine 1.5.
Conclusion: is Ideogram 4.5 worth it in 2026?
Ideogram 4.5 is worth trying for editing and typography work, but it has lost the text crown. Its strengths are precise multi-turn edits, native 2K, text-layer editing and prices you can read off a table.
Run one real poster or logo prompt through Ideogram, GPT Image 2.5 and Craft, then proofread every word. Rankings tell you who wins on average, and your own copy tells you who wins for you.
